Gui Tavares

Gui Tavares is a Brazilian songwriter and musical arranger currently residing in London, England.

After training as a classical guitarist, Gui earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Composition and Conducting from the University of Campinas, Brazil. Also during this time he performed one of his own compositions with the Campinas Symphony Orchestra, and went on to release his first album, “Noite que Brincou de Lua” (1981) with Edu Passeto. 

In the early 90s Gui moved Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where he was able to share the stage with Joyce Moreno, Clara Moreno, Claudio Nucci, at venues such as SESC and Joao Caetano Theatre, as well as appearing on several major Brazilian television programs with these artists.

Gui made the decision to relocate to London in 2003, where he has continued his career, performing at the Southbank Centre, Jazz Cafe, and Pizza Express Jazz Club, as well as in festivals such as Brecon Jazz Festival and locations as far flung as Italy, where he played with the group Azymuth, filling in for the keyboardist Jose Roberto Bertrami, and at Black Note in Valencia, Spain. In 2007 he made a trip to Tokyo and Osaka, in Japan, to promote the Japanese re-release of his second album “Amigos & Friends.” He also had the honour of playing at Somerset House in London during the 2012 London Olympics.
